As I preached in my recent blog about wrapping my BMW 435i Gran Coupe in a Matte Metallic Purple, for some, cars are much more than a means of getting from Point A to Point B. For myself, and many others, cars are a true passion, and go far beyond the materialistic aspect, and optics, of owning a car of such magnitude. Many believe cars are a way to show, or even flaunt, wealth and status, but that is often not the case. For enthusiasts, cars are a reflection and representation of ones unique personality. From the make, model, color, and specifications, ones car can be tailored to be an extension of the owner. While I currently own a BMW, my true passion is for Lamborghini. I have been obsessed with the brand since the mid 1990s, when I first laid eyes on the Countach and Diablo. I have been following the brand closely for years, and it has become a true inspiration and motivator in my life.
Getting to Know the Brand
Over the last couple of years, I have started to get more personal with the brand. From cruises in different cars, to attending different Lamborghini events, I am quickly being exposed to more of the brand. Recently, I was invited to the private unveiling of the 2017 Lamborghini Aventador S, which is essentially a face-lifted version of the current Aventador. The Aventador is Lamborghinis current signature model, which sports the famous Lamborghini doors, and an exhaust loud enough to wake up a neighborhood. The brand has always been known for its bold, aggressive, yet beautiful styling, and the Aventador is no exception.
Time to Mingle - Coming Together Around a Common Passion
This event was nothing short of what you would expect from a supercar dealership. From the models offering champagne, to the beautifully presented catered appetizers, the ambiance was on point. Even the cupcakes had the Aventador S logo neatly displayed on top of each one.
For the first hour, it was primarily a meet and greet, or mingling, period while the car remained. This is where you clearly saw how much cars unite people, bringing them around a common passion. While each person may have made their successes in completely different ways, are from different cultural backgrounds, and different age demographics, these events break down all barriers and truly create a unique atmosphere. People are often excited to hear about what new cars may have been recently added to their friends collection, or hearing rumors about which unique models may be coming to the city this year. Something that many assume is that people with the money to afford a Lamborghini are arrogant, egotistical, or pompous. I can say with confidence that, for the most part, this couldn't be further from the truth. Some of the most down-to-earth, humble, and modest people I have ever met are a part of this culture. I am in belief that this may be derived from the fact that the majority of these people had to work unbelievably hard for years on end to get to this point. The general public often views their status in the moment, but don't take a step back to appreciate the effort that went into achieving such success.
After the first hour elapsed, the car was then unveiled. Starting with a speech with intertwined video clips of the Aventador S, the cover was removed and applause filled the dealership. I can openly say that I was very impressed seeing the car in the flesh in comparison to the renderings. It took on a completely new personality, and being able to see the updated styling allowed for a true appreciation of the new angles and shapes. From that point on, the evening was mostly about taking pictures of, with, and inside the new Aventador S, as well as getting feedback from friends on their first impressions of the new car.
After attending the unveiling of a new supercar, it is safe to say that people are getting extremely excited for what is to come in 2017. I know of many special and unique models that are new to the city, and cannot wait for some of the meets to start up to see them out in the wild.
For those of you who may not know, my goal is to order my first Lamborghini in 2018 on my birthday, December 1st. I am most definitely going to need the help of each and every one of you to get there, and will be documenting the journey leading up to that very special day going forward.
Huge thanks to Lamborghini Calgary for the invitation to this event. I look forward to more in the future.
